Hi my friends, happy Monday!
Today’s class is a part of our evolution here on Align, following It’s All Temporary from a few weeks ago. If you’d like to read a bit more about what I mean by evolution, you’ll find background there!
The inspiration behind today’s practice is two-fold, as I observe the generations around me. As a mom to a three year old, watching my son grow up, I’ve been amazed by how his body moves - from the very wee stages as a baby through the toddler years and now as a preschooler. The strength and mobility that we’re born with, the way he innately moves to do such things as sitting down and standing up. And as I think about how I want to be able to do those same things so I’m agile and able to play with him throughout his childhood years.
And then on the other hand, I’m watching my parents and their generation and the way their bodies move and I’m reminded of the importance of building time into our days to work on strength and mobility. Because while it may be something that we’re born with, the old adage is true of “if we don’t use it, we lose it.”
So today’s focus is on functional movement to build both strength and mobility, working the muscles that we call upon in our daily lives to do such things as sit down and stand up.
Another fun addition to our evolution here is that we now have some background music! You can find our playlist here.
*If you’re part of our prenatal community and in your second or third trimester, we spend some time in this class on our backs and also practicing asymmetrical leg movements so depending on your comfort level, this may or may not be a class for you. Asymmetrical leg exercises can exacerbate SPD pain or pubic symphysis so if you’ve been experience either of those, I’d hold off on this for now.
Thank you for practicing with me!
